The Titaness Selene was the Ancient Greek goddess of the Moon. The myth of Selen and Endymion (which inspired one of the most famous Anime power couples of all time) involved the goddess paying visits to her beloved shepherd-prince while he was sleeping, perhaps in his dreams. 
 
Selene would of course go on to inspire a plethora of lunar deities in the Hellenic world, including Artemis, Diana, Luna, and more.
